My Skelanimals Story: 

   Once upon a time I was a freshman in high school and I would often casually browse the Hot Topic with my then girlfriend and I found these toys in store. I was too afraid to admit that they were cute because I hadn't broke out of my social shell. I couldn't bring myself to openly admit that I was in love with Skelanimals because I wasn't a scene kid. During my teenage years, I was an indie hipster type teen who rocked crappy bands such as Arcade Fire and The National (before Taylor Swift pretended to be an hipster too... ugh.) I coped New Balance sneaks from Urban Outfitters with Lacoste polos and corduroys. I was in to Wes Anderson movies and small coffee shop lattes! I was into reading Jack Kerouac unironically and unfortunately. Haven't seen Portlandia? My brother was cool, but my friend Cameron was introducing me to his Animal Collective vinyl. Flight of the Concords was chock full of inside jokes for us tasteful types...

 

    At the time Skelanimals (Gloomy Bear too unfortunately) was outside of my taste. But secretly I was envious of all the scene kids in Jr. High because they got to rock their Kit the Cat hoodies. I wanted their Jack the Rabbit folders they have carrying their homework so bad. The cute is too powerful. The only thing I could do was compliment the scene girls on their shiny new bag. Boys like me couldn't embrace their love for Dead but Cute (Gloomy Bear is another inspiration), and you had to be a girl to be into Hot Topic mascots such as Happy Bunny. I really wanted Skelanimals growing up but I didn't speak up. I wasn't rocking with these types until Junior year, until then it was too late. Till this day I regret purchasing the plushes in store. I remember behaving as a cringy teenager (who hadn't am I right) but these were one of my most fondest toys. Today I'm an adult crank who currently works as a barista and I'm pursuing to become a nurse. Does Skelanimals make scrubs? 

    I owe an apology to the scene kids. You had great taste in cute.(My Chemical Romance and Hayley Williams actually rocked!)

   I've decided to build this blog for my affection (passionate obsession lol..) towards Skelanimals because these cartoons and toys are absolutely beautiful and Skelanimals now resonates with me deeply. I would love to become a Skelanimal character one day so let's get my dreams started! My goal for this blog is to create a archive of merchandise starting with the brand's launch in 2005! I also would love to land interviews with creator Mitchell Bernal as well as fellow Skelanimal fans online. Explain how bands and models marketed for Skelanimals created a legacy of scene and emo fashion/music (the impact still resonates online today). Introduce letter grade rankings for each Skelanimal (each Skelanimal bio as well as their level of cuteness as well as their music taste and horror movie preferences!) Once I start absorbing Skelanimals into my life again there's no turning back! So please stay tuned! Things are about to turn scary!!!
